currently im in the mist deep of preparing myself to do a narrative treatment entitled Sehelai Kain Sarung. For the uninitiated - Kain Sarung is a comfortable cloth is effective for our tropical weather plus it can be utilized  in various ways. What intrigued me everytime when i was a kid are the design imprinted on it. Few are decorative, few are simplified, so years later - i found out the design used on it carries symbolical meanings. For the guys, there are no designs, only simple horizontal lines is good enough - like this The younger generations will adapt kain sarung in a more colorful manner such as this.... our own local version of ninja Its super comfy man - trust me. Ok...lets go back to the design, The ornamented ones normally reserved for the females - like these. another issue about fashion designers is 1. do they know who is buying their stuffs? 2. the materials used in their clothing line - is it suitable with the weather? 3. are they standing on reality or their reality? 4. fine - they want to make a statement - but what sort of statement? Fine it's ok that you dress up nicely / or at times loudly saying that you are in the creative line, but producing something, labeling/throwing up tantrum, blaming people not HIP enough when audience criticize your work? Now you have a problem man........ The fashion industry thrives in the european market and in the US, as their consumer market over there is huge plus they have 4 seasons to contend with - designing every god damn reason for people to shop. But again - this is abomination, unbelievable, blasphemy. Gone are subtlety, taste and the sublime. Until today i cant fathom and connect the word "groundbreaking" with fashion. been scouting a mini series that able to take me somewhere after Breaking Bad, i always have soft spot for brilliantly written, flawed characters - good cinematography, i found all of this in Netflix's Narcos. I binged it for the past few days and seriously - it's worth every second and minute. Pablo Escobar appeared only for few minute in Johnny Depp's Blow - but anything with Escobar, im hooked. Seriously he owns everything, its funny to the extend - spends couple of grand just to buy rubber bands for his cocaine cash - builds his own castilia ( jail ) - creating his own set of rules, deals with the government and jailing himself. The El Paisa Robin Hood The first season of Narcos - 10 episodes shift my perception and definition of what good and what is bad, decisions and the consequences that both politicians and the crooks made, seriously NARCOS is GOOD. manage to squeeze in some time and visit the kids at their shooting location. These kids are from the film faculty ( which i left 3 years ago - due to so many issues, its sad when you have management that don't give a damn of student's well-being and creativity ).Teaching requires a sharp eye to spot a raw talent and the ability to groom them accordingly. And yes that sort effort takes so much time.   Few of the boys until today are involved with my production, while the rest are completing their final projects. Hardworking and certainly knows what they are doing. What is important here is they able to "tahan my maki hamun".  Yep....that's me ( a fatter/unfit version in the Ibu Mertuaku set - where i had so much fun toying with them ) the film won the Inspirasi P.Ramlee Short Film Competition ( where the prize was divided equally among all ), few of them spend it on a remote control car when i told them - the cash should be paid for their semester fees.

went up to Penang for a new shoot entitled PULANG ( coming back home ), something been brewed for years. Anyway it's pretty cool heading up to Penang ( my second home - where i spent almost 6 years there ), most of my closest pals lived there too....good food, good company - what else i want? Again as a mark of respect, i chose USM ( my alma mater ) as the location. with Hafiz, we drop by Rozana's Batik at Lebuh Acheh - testing out their awesome fish spa - my feet feels good and clean. The location Mamu and family PULANG  in the old days,new born will sleep in it, wrapped around,carried by their mother in this wonderful kain sarung till 40 days - then only able to step foot on earth. Cool right?
