Scalper Scumbags

Image
i have to admit, there will be losers everywhere.  There will be losers, average useless idiots in every corner of whatever you do. What is worst is those average losers will leverage on what you did and take credit for it.  anyway - here im talking one of the losers which are the scalpers. They are opportunists, bought everything and selling it higher in the secondary market. Its a chicken and egg issue here. They exists as there are buyers. Buyers who dont have enough time, too busy for their own good ( like me ), not knowing that these products even exists until you stumbled upon them.  Like these Delorean issued by Lego. Sold easily for half a grand in the market. Looks cool for the informal fans but seriously its super ugly.   I balked and walked away after seeing the price tag and nearly vomitted when the seller told me that its "rare" and all the related sales pitch.  Now thanks to Lego modular brick design, fans easily able to build their own versions. So far, Dave Sl

Being Courteous is a Hard Work.

after asking you to submit various forms, presentation for a television station - they simply didnt even bother to answer or even sending a courtesy email. Hello, put some fucking effort in notifying everyone with an email, a note why they are not chosen as i believe everyone put in effort to fulfill whatever crap you wanted.  its call courtesy getting ideas like these doesnt help.   you can view here on how international committees and festival organizers react and treat their submissions.  https://theobservatoryanderson78.blogspot.com/2016/01/courtesy-notes-rejection.html   let me show you another excellent example. this is what we call being thoughtful and exemplary. When i lectured few contextual subjects for a 3+0 Foreign Degree Programme, i got an excellent training ( thanks Ian and Alan ) on how to place objective comments to each students for their assignments.  we took considerable time to identify and reviewed their weak areas.  https://theobservatoryanderson78.blogspot.com/

Seorang Tua Di Kaki Bukit

Image
"aku tak tua!"- Tukya in order to prove his talent, strength after being insulted by his grand kids for his old dilapidated house, Tukya with all his might, grace and yes angst in him - pummeled the 90 year old cengal tree.  Written by Azizi Hj Abdullah, Soerang Tua di Kaki Bukit ( The Old Man at the Foot of the Mountain ) directed by Halimi MN will be staged in Panggung Sasaran on 20-24th October. lopsided, dilapidated Tukya's pride and joy.   His hut was inspired by several primary data embedded in my head - no thanks to endless missions with INSAF.   Its good to be back in this sacred space, the place which i learn and experimented building things, vocalizations, acting and directing. The space who pushed me to wondrous limits and ponteng. From left - Halimi and Lan Chin on the right, identifying strategic stage positions. with some light, everything will be ok and looks cool lets add some realistic shit to the 90 year old cengal tree.   now postponed due to CMCO as C

David Ogilvy on How To Write

Image
On September 7th, 1982, Ogilvy sent the following internal memo to all agency employees, titled “How to Write”:     The better you write, the higher you go in Ogilvy & Mather.    People who think well, write well.      Woolly minded people write woolly memos, woolly letters and woolly speeches.      Good writing is not a natural gift. You have to learn to write well.    Here are 10 hints:          1. Read the Roman-Raphaelson book on writing. Read it three times.          2. Write the way you talk. Naturally.          3. Use short words, short sentences and short paragraphs.          4. Never use jargon words like re-conceptualize, demystification, attitudinal, judgmentally.   They are hallmarks of a pretentious ass.          5. Never write more than two pages on any subject.          6. Check your quotations.          7. Never send a letter or a memo on the day you write it. Read it aloud the next morning — and then edit it.          8. If it is something important, get a coll

The Importance of Writing

Image
published in 2011 - updated in 2020   takes only 4 min read   Why the hell do we need to write?      Before I go on, first things first - if you unable to articulate your thoughts orally, how the hell do you intend to do it in writing?    I have to admit that it takes skill and endless hours of practice to get your grammar/comprehension straight.     Q: Is it hard to write?  Well, try first and then you'll know. Write a 100 words about yourself and let your pal take a look at it. If your pal is laughing miserably hard, that is a good sign and you can apply to be a comedy scriptwriter.        Q : Why do we write?  A - In the past, memorization was integral to a largely oral culture, but it became less important when the written word was invented, and even less so when the written word was mass produced. Our dear Socrates refused to put down his ideas in writing because he felt that knowledge was a living, interactive thing – it required the exchange and discussion of ideas.

Evaluating Creativity

first published in 2012, updated in 2020. this note is to help students to understand on how to write an essay review after attending an exhibition.  ca·thar·sis    1.the purging of the emotions or relieving of emotional tensions, especially through certain kinds of art, as tragedy or music.    This is what you supposed to get when you experience, finished watching/viewing an awesome piece of creative work consists of painting, drawing,a film, a musical masterpiece and “something” that is relevant to creativity.  After viewing it you learn something or make you go humble or worse, tears streaming down to your cheeks and ultimately kneeling down with respect and screaming “oh I am so not worth it…………..” I experienced this when I first saw Michelangelo’s Pieta in the art history book, watched Predator kicks Arnold in the big screen and listened to Wagner’s.   Michaelangelo The Pieta, 1498–1499, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.       Producing something creative is involves everybo

District 9

Neil Blomkamp's 2009 seminal film entitled District 9 blew me away without a doubt.   one word - coz it had an Engaging story the setting is the one that hooked me away, with the cinema verite outlook, realistic mis-en-scene grabbed me, i got a fucking solid ride with this film. In the world of sci-fi, production design is one of the important machinery in adding believably and yes to lengthen our suspension of disbelief throughout the film.  finally got some time to build myself the Arc Gun. Took me couple of tries as it has definitive angles to it and to source out the right bricks. If the angle tilt further, the whole thing doesnt work. Its one of the subtle and tricky elements. Just like in drawing or cooking, certain ingredients when you add it up, it would rip everything apart. at first i wanted to follow the color schemes by Weta designers which is black and orange. But it doesnt stand out. Dont ask me how many bricks it took me. I didnt count. Anything that is 1:1 scale requ
