Do or Do Not.

Image
People is weird. The social media age we have everyone loves jump unto conclusion - being judgmental for no reason. Voicing out their OPINIONS - worst commenting.Commenting in FB is just like blowing your fart unto the air. As i know - FB is currently abuzz with the news about a driver who crashed unto a group of kids on a bicycle. Someone posted a video of kids cycling dangerously. Everyone blamed each other. Other pointing the parents. Blaming game again. The problem is - we cant do anything. Its done, it happened. WAKE UP la oiiii. Focus on what is next. Just like how the media kept ridicules Donald Trump and people as usual will share it around - if you can share for 5 times and we have Trump stepping down - then we have a different story. he will STILL be the President for a term.  lets see we have tons of demonstrations and yet we have NO RESULT except litters.  Mind you, our country now welcomes back the Toronto serial rapist and remember the maths genius

Books and Punishment

Due to our consistent weak Ringgit - buying books at - time can be pretty heart-breaking episodes. A graphic novel trade-paperback easily costs around 60 bucks - now how the hell you want Malaysians to read....Indonesia and India is pretty awesome when they print it locally. Thanks to few brilliant entrepreneurs goes by the name of Big Bad Wolf and Book Axxess located in Amcorp Mall, they able to bring in (overun) editions - and the price is 40- 60% cheaper than retail. The problem is you just.....need a bottle of luck if you want to find the title you want. Anyway talking about books, i manage to find time to arrange all my collections based on categories and its pretty awesome knowing that i have this. Retailed at USD 60 back in the year 2000, i gritted my teeth after considering it for 7 bloody time before buying this. my heartache was taken away after flipping pages and pages of Geoff Darrow's and conceptual artwork, storyboards, shooting script and what not.   At ti

Tragic Valentine Tales

so apparently 2 guys got dumped - or have their dates cancelled as 1. a guy asked her if she wants anything, she replied "nothing", he paid the price when he thought that he finally got a woman who thinks like a man.... 2. and a date refused to go dinner as the guy drove an old car. Tell you what my man....next time, drive this instead....ok it takes two to tango. As usual the males will blame the females and vice versa, tell you guys sometimes we need to agree to disagree to make things work.....most important thing is - ensure - you are happy first. The rest will follow.

Design : Story

Image
When i lecture in one of the local institution in film department, i always inform the students that story is king, the story is one that holds everything together, everyone need to work, design virtually everything to lead audience from point A to point B. Well most of them decided to do epic stuffs resulting everything including me and the rest of the guest assessors got lost. Their short 5 minutes film seems like 5 hours. Torturing us with their shots, mannequin actors and other related stuffs. Anyway that is eons ago. Music video format is ideal and changed drastically ( Michael Jackson pushed the envelope with his videos ) throughout the years. Few can be all out weird but few can be tastefully simplistic. The ones that i always bookmarked are the ones that have interesting entertaining simple story- anchored by a single track. Mind you, its hard getting the right visuals with song, unless you are a Tarantino. I got goosebumps when my mind kept replaying this scene supported

The Arrival ( Deconstructed )

Image
The Arrival seriously knows how to engage the audience , even though they try to jump back and forth - it just strengthen their linear narrative. A subtler, contemplative Back to the Future. The aliens landed in 12 locations and they need help, as usual human beings are so afraid and territorial, protective and wanting to take care of their own interest, decided to go ultra defensive. The aliens wants to give the humans to understand their language so in the future - in return the humans will help them in the future and with the US army led by King of Scotland, linguist Amy Adams and Hawkeye - come unto the picture to investigate. the problem now is that the aliens cant speak English and explain. So they spread ink on the air. They communicate using visuals. So after awhile - Amy Adams describe the alien doodles as Nonlinear Orthography.   Non linear means it's not arranged in a straight line while Orthography means conventional spelling system of a language.  ABCDEFGH

The Bull

Pencil on canvas, 2016 This film is filled with so much aesthetics, mastery in every form - until i dont know how to begin with. The only way to pay respect is to re-produce this again on a canvas and hang it in my collection room.

John Wick : Chapter 2

Image
John Wick: Chapter 2 doesn't make audience squirm and suffer in their seats like Raid the Redemption sequel, in fact - asking us to shut off our mind, forget the rising living cost for 122 minutes. The sequel is a highly polished, overkill - colorful and of course violent. Like an over-dressed Big Mac. In the first film - a lucky guy stole a car and killed a dog who belonged to a "nobody". The nobody turned out to be Baba Yaga ( a fearsome witch with iron teeth, thin as a skeleton and have ferocious appetite - who looks like Keanu Reeves ). Keanu go all bad ass, hunts him down and yes nearly killed everyone in the first film. the most unfortunate character in film history, got hunted and killed for killing a dog and stealing a Mustang.  Its mindless fun and it made money. So they decided to make a sequel. I rejoiced too as the film is recklessly entertaining.  In Chapt

Chow Sing Chi

I really miss Stephen Chow, especially when Chinese New Year around the corner. Before that Jackie Chan ruled the cinema with his non-stop action flick, then the throne was passed to Stephen Chow and he doesnt look back. His brand of comedy was dubbed as Mo Lei Tau meaning silly ( doesnt have any sense at all ), his comic timing and set-up was so hilarious until we memorized and play the scene all over again in my head.In order to move on from the tragic Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and the subsequent tensions Hong Kong films churned out Mo Lai Tau comedies. Most of them falls flat as Stephen Chow ruled them all. Just like those manga cartoons where the characters cant stand with the other characters, unable to with-stand their idiocy, their nose will bleed or simply faint. Not all his films are great as they are not consistent. Here is my top 5 Stephen Chow's films. Based on my criteria, these films are chosen based on the plot strength, secondary supporting characters
