currently im in the mist deep of preparing myself to do a narrative treatment entitled Sehelai Kain Sarung. For the uninitiated - Kain Sarung is a comfortable cloth is effective for our tropical weather plus it can be utilized in various ways. What intrigued me everytime when i was a kid are the design imprinted on it. Few are decorative, few are simplified, so years later - i found out the design used on it carries symbolical meanings.
For the guys, there are no designs, only simple horizontal lines is good enough - like this
The younger generations will adapt kain sarung in a more colorful manner such as this....

Its super comfy man - trust me. Ok...lets go back to the design, The ornamented ones normally reserved for the females - like these.
As you guys can see here, we can various triangle motives here right - it symbolizes the bamboo shoots. We call it Pucuk Rebung, it's edible, sweet. In one of the local parables, when we want to educate the kid, we need to do it when they are young - hence - a local proverb " kalau nak melentur buluh, biarlah dari rebungnya...", Few design shows a bigger and a smaller bamboo shoots - symbolizing the mother and child.
Cool right?

Most motives, design especially from the Southeast Asia region are influenced by
nature and their harmonic relationship between man and nature.Few are derived from the design of a fruit ( namely mangosteen and bananas ). Mind you, most designs have a
strange interconnected elements between Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam elements.
The Islamic beautiful arabesque design symbolizes harmony - interconnection
let's go back to the Triangle, it also often used and symbolizes the mountains - mountains normally associated with the deities, mythical gods and spirits.( for the geeks - think of Asgard - Thor's hometown )
