Characterization is important, it's all depends on the writers on how they able to add layers of attitudes in them, from their costumes, their lines, their swagger = all of this small elements add up and presented to us. Tarantino knows how to flesh all of this to each one of his characters - so good. Jules Winnfield, the funky afro assassin, who took his job well enough, decides to resign from his profession after he experienced a divine intervention ( where someone shot him and Jules point blank - but all the bullets went pass thru them ). The course and events later during the day strengthen his decision.

Tony Montana basically starts from scratch - taking the world by it's balls - but what is brilliant is - he dont say NO or refuse from doing anything. Brian De Palma's glossy masterpiece celebrates and glorifies greed, consumption and violence, but we dig deeper - we see how an individual's focus put himself into various consequences and how he took full responsibility for his actions. I always tell the truth. Even when I lie.

We All Shine on....

What the hell Yoko's doing? Knitting? Well meet Madam Defarge - She's a villain from A Tale of Two Cities who has a passion for two things in particular -- killing and knitting, as seen in this excerpt: “Eh well! How then?” demanded madame, tying another knot, as if there were another enemy strangled. It can be argued that Defarge's knitting represents a couple of different things. In the story, she literally knits a list of condemned names into her work, but some say it's also meant to symbolize the callousness with which she carries out her treachery. Defarge performs her seemingly innocuous activity while sentencing people to death, which is exactly what Bane is doing in the courtroom. The similarities between the characters don't stop there. Defarge has had terrible wrongs committed against her and her family in the past and believes innocents should die for their families' crimes. Sound familiar? Here's Bane doing the very sa

NOW

what one of the most important lesson i got this year is - if you planning something, its best you do it NOW rather than WAIT for the right moment. You see we don't know when the hell is the RIGHT MOMENT. When i was in the flood humanitarian mission, experiencing the devastation right in front of my eyes, seeing all their belongings, houses they build all thru the years - GONE. I still remember vividly an old gentleman gave me a hug and point his fingers left to right and told me " everything is GONE ". I try not break down and told him " dont worry, most importantly - you are still ALIVE. " He gave me an awesome smile. Yes...being ALIVE. It's good to know to be ALIVE. Flashback to 2009 - As i woke up from a horrible accident, broke my leg in a freak accident - i'm in the wheelchair, seeing the sunrise from the hospital balcony. I took a deep breath and slowly exhale - telling and  reminding myself....fuck i'm alive.  took m

Notes about Being a A Film-maker

Image
Alot of my film students asked - what makes a good story? All stories have a lesson. The problem is how to you want to engage your audience. Your audience is not an alien or a monster - they are all human beings. So if you guys want to write a story - you must remember - all of us is not perfect and screwed up in our own unique way . Audience will relate to it. If not - just stick to wedding videos ok.

Dear Universe.......

Image
My dearest Universe, Please bless all the individuals who helped me, who supported my works and the Do Good Missions. Let them be loved and happy, be free of any mental, physical suffering, forgive their misdeeds and wrongdoings. Alot of people forgot how to say Thank You, Being Grateful and see what other's had done, contributed and helped them. All of us are capable of being happy as this is our birthright and given the best chance to enjoy it - but we always squandered it to small lesser things. Thank you Allie Hill, Kuyyie ( Sultan Melaka ), Ujang, Kak Ana, Hasnul and beautiful daughters in Rozana's Batik, Mamu ( Sahabat 1 ), Zam, Sham ( Ustaz Don ) Nana Hamdan, Ian Wilcox, Fadzilah, Chong Sern, Padawans : Lucas, Afham, Illi, Sharon, Fang Jing, Tarquin, Zaky Qursany, Faz Doodle, Sweii Chong, June Kuan,Wai Theng, Sharifah ( Nab ), Richard Lau, Sofea, Lee June Jye, Lee Heng Kok, Apokolips Galeria, Fashya, Choco Cat, wonderful sisters Remi and Rina, Vera, Joo Yee, Ha

Love Yourself First

Image
Alot of people came up to me and told me that human relationships can be complicated and messy. To be honest, it's not - when we learn how to love ourselves first. If we learn what make us happy, then we can proceed to make others happy. There is a thin fine line between being SELFISH and LOVING OURSELVES . Life is short, fleeting and temporal - so i dont need to deal with dramas and other issues related to EGO. Therefore 1. I always make a point to buy the things i love for myself. 2. Never ever expect someone understand you or know what's inside in your head. 3. Never assume or expect. 4. Expectations and Assumptions is mother of all fucked-ups. Coz most people always forgot how to be grateful, be thankful of what they have and had of other's effort to making themselves happy. Here's an example of making myself happy......collecting and curating this. So I always surround ourselves with the things, events and people that kept me inspired, happy and

I can never say NO to this classic iconic piece of pop culture artefact. The Time Machine. Hotwheels and other notable manufacturers named Sunstar from Macau and Welly's been churning out these fantastic Delorean models at a reasonable prices. So far, I managed to hunt several scales/ versions through the years. To be honest, collecting toys here in the country requires patience in terms of building your collection, getting them at reasonable prices and getting the ones you love. Too bad i missed the 1:48 Vitesse models when it first came out - the price is hefty. Guess i'll skip the 1:6 scale from Hot Toys as it's just way way too big. Here are few pics. The 1:50 and the 1:48 model The Hover version is the Entertainment Earth's, it's 1:15 and it's electronic, surrounded by the 1:24 by Welly's One of my jedi knight got this with me. The basic 1:64 Left is the basic while on the right is the retro-carded Delorean. huge differenc

Brilliant

It's nice observing the Jap tourists jumping up and down saying....."Heisenberg........Don Corleone..........." .........Tony Montana.....one of the sublime moments when they able to enjoy the work rather than focusing the artist. I love to be in the background Enjoying the works. Not enjoying the wines and entertain themselves in an idle chatter and flooding FB with pic of themselves instead of the work. No catalog and no publication print-out - as i totally surrender this work to the universe - who will be able to lead all the beautiful souls to enjoy them and own them if they want to. I am grateful. Excelsior!!!

Thank You for the ones who purchased and supported this Do Good initiative - my fellow friends, my former, current Jedi Knight in training. We need to know that our talents can be expanded to something useful and contribute something to humanity. Lately i discussed with few of my pals and realized that listing down bad qualities is easier than listing the good ones. Complaining - whining is one of them, we always forgot being grateful of what we had, have and achieved. Im dropping everything now. Leaving to the universe to decide who's who i will encounter and face.Is there a need for me to bear a brunt of someones wrath for not doing whatever they want? Screw it. My formula is simple, if the intention is good , the result will be good . PERIOD. Life is extremely short - after dealing with so many deaths and struggles ( few of my close pals now is battling with bone/breast cancer ), i find out that its best for me to stay happy, get inspired and persuade others to see wh

Superman

Image
Sharing you guys one of brilliant writings of Quentin Tarantino, damn he can really write. Bill : As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique. The Bride : [ who still has a needle in her leg ] How long does this shit take to go into effect? Bill : About two minutes, just long enough for me to finish my point. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman w

Not Automatic

Image
NATHAN: Look over here. You know this guy, right? CALEB: Pollock. NATHAN: Pollock. The drip painter. He let his mind go blank, and his hand go where it wanted. Not deliberate, not random. Someplace in between. They called it automatic art. NATHAN gazes at the canvas. NATHAN: Let’s make this like Star Trek, okay? Engage intellect. CALEB: ... What? NATHAN: I’m Kirk. Your head is the warp drive. ‘Engage intellect’. What if Pollock had reversed the challenge? Instead of trying to make art without thinking, he said: I can’t paint anything unless I know exactly why I’m doing it. What would have happened? CALEB: He’d never have made a single mark. NATHAN: See? There’s my guy. There’s my buddy, who actually thinks before he opens his mouth. He’d never have made a single mark. The challenge is not to act automatically. It’s to find an action that is not automatic. From talking, to breathing, to painting.
