Moral Compass

for the past 3 and half years, I've been helping a humanitarian body called INSAF. Why? one of their missions is providing a decent house, solar and toilet for qualified orang asal. The most basic in the Maslow hierarchy. By all means, missions made me reflect deeply and aghast at their living conditions. 7 people in a cramp space, lack of food and electricity - no wonder the kids dropped out from school and resort unto something that is more practical - filling their hungry stomachs.

question - who can study when you have empty stomach?

The ones who went to school requires tremendous grit and courage. Of coz after the Orang Asal got their house, i realized that i need to find out something bigger yet practical structure and i cant work alone. It requires the whole society to ensure that everyone can at least have a comfortable roof on top of their house, full stomach and deep sleep, comforted by security - in the form of sustainable job that able to feed them, their kids and their bills.

cash doesnt belong in any categories in the Maslow Hierachy

Cash handouts, flash donations is a failure, same with when someone highlighted their plight/misery in the social media, people starts to throw donations but it wont solve any solution - its a knee jerk situation. You cant solve the problem instantly, you cant be a hero and save the world alone. You need everyone to chip unto something sustainable, noteworthy and requires time for the process and rebuilding.

Its an on-going act.

Now with greed steps in, all their ancestral land sold away, what is going to happen? They started out with blockade, banning all the loggers from coming in - but mind you, the loggers have bills to pay, kids to feed too. Everything links, interconnected to one another and we cant take sides. If Instistutions and authorities that is trusted to govern them simply doesnt work - so what we going to do about it?

Its normal cash handouts was freely distributed during the election period. The amount of cash given is so much, but it wont last or even solve anything. Lets take a look at Cameron Highlands, where there are many Orang Asal lives and currently having a new election  as Election Court judge, Justice Azizah Nawawi, named Wan Rosdy and MP C Sivarraajh being involved in corrupt electoral practices in the constituency.

For instance, on May 6, 2018, Wan Rosdy and Sivarraajh visited Pos Lenjang, using a helicopter, and gave to the tok batin about RM25,000 to be distributed to Orang Asli voters in their respective villages, apart from the payment of RM200 to each chief.

200 bucks for a vote and mind you, what you can buy and sustain for RM200?

5 packs of 10 kg rice, 5 bottles of cooking oil?

The Orang Asal no longer have a land, instead they made more kids and with this cash handouts? Its a bloody insult. If someone who cares for others, they already build a system where they dont need to give out cash in the next election.

the awesome - hardworking Batin Aso from Rangoi.

Sure, i have so many discussions with my close pals, but seriously what is the limit of helping them out? A help must come from within themselves and from there, they will help others. At least i offer my energy and time building them shelters as a start, if they want more, they must and will find ways to get out to elevate themselves from misery.
