World Ocean Day.
The theme for this year is Awaken New Depth.
Apparently Sabah have no depth at all as we can witness local authorities demolishing houses of the Sea Gypsies ( known as Bajau Laut or the Palaun ) under the pretext saying that they crept unto the national Tun Sakaran Marine Park. First and foremost, when you demolish their houses, its not easy for the Sea Gypsies to get wooden planks and zinc to build their home in the first place ok.
An incomprehensible act of tyranny on valuing people that has no value to you?
Like Aquaman, the ocean is their playground, they too need to rely on constant food, fresh water supplies and utilities too. Therefore they need to have a land for these purposes. So dont tell me that these guys happily and merrily dancing and start chopping those trees away? Surely of course they need a valid permit and permission from the authorities before doing this.
or maybe the sea gypsies doesn't have any financial support and means like the ones who planted durians in Pahang to grease the powers that be?
These Sea Gypsies existed way back even before the formation of the marine park.
For years the Sea Gypsies is an easy target and blamed as criminals and smugglers, yet it's ironic knowing them placing a spotlight to Sabah for the world to come. With tourists ( gleefully snapped their photos without any consent ) coming in, surely these activities bring some benefit to the tourism sector right?
Or maybe i am wrong.....
