SEA Notes 3 : Objects
The main argument here is when a cultural artefact displayed in a musuem ( encased - enclosed - displayed ) - it's a dead piece. How on earth people can understand, experience it. Most of the time, when a cultural artefact is analyzed, deconstructed and the findings of it ( data ) published in a book - ITS OFFICIALLY DEAD.
You see when we enter a museum - all the objects is untouchable. Need to be gazed upon. Like a dead body. Even the word MUSEUM originated from the word -
mau·so·le·um
ˌmôsəˈlēəm,ˌmôzəˈlēəm/
What i meant here is - there must be a concentrated effort to ensure generations to generations understand why this cultural objects exists. Showing them the reason, making them live with it, EXPERIENCE it and making them see how they are a part of us ( within US ) - then only they will understand their own Tradition and Culture first and foremost before they can accept others.
Just like how Napoleon asked his military might to transport the Laocoon to the Lourve - this sensible effort is done to construct, asking the French to refer/look upon to the Greeks as only a BASIS to build a new culture.
But here in the Southeast Asia - we dont have to, we have communities living - guided with sublime beauty of tradition of culture - translated to our dresses, language and houses. We don't use material objects as a source of reference instead we use NATURE as point of reference.

I always strive to make people aware that they need to breathe and live with it rather than gaze upon it. No need for the process of objectification but freeing them from this shackles of analysis and examinations. I dont need to highlight any argument here but here we are from Southeast Asia - a tropical garden, we have only 2 seasons here - rain and sun. We dont have 4 seasons - so lets behave like one shall we?
Its hillarious seeing we used a dogmatic, cultural systems and linguistic from a foreign land and used it to examine our own.
Gila kan?!!!
