Joker

made out from $62 million, the first R rated film to gross 1 billion worldwide. Now - lets swipe off the god awful cartoonish Jared Leto, Joqquin Pheonix did the right move by avoiding to be Dr Strange, signed in for this movie.

Joker is like a remixed Martin Scorcese's 1983 The Kind of Comedy, where Deniro played Rupert Pupkin - a struggling comedian, also stayed with his mother and yes delusional.

Clocking in for 2 hours, we have Arthur -  diagnosed with depression trying to find a tune in the depressed slum by getting to be a clown as a gig, living with his mother and have his daily Murray Franklin before signing off. Nobody looks at him, acknowledged Arthur's existence - before he gun down 3 " white collared, educated, office losers".

From being invisible, Arthur burned his past - turned to be a symbol of resistance against the rich and wealthy and gave the world his first joke - the late night show host. Then we see him in the asylum, blood stained footsteps - running and chased gleefully. Years of bottled angst drove Arthur to throw everything inside and embrace his new persona.

Arthur Fleck asked "is it me or is it just getting crazier out there?"

The killings here are justified and deserving just like The French Connection ( shooting someone from the back ). Beautiful. Something that Marvel universe cant even to show as they are kid-friendly brand.

Todd Philips sustained my sense of disbelief in his universe, armed with beautiful cinematography work, carefully staging what is real and what is in Arthur's mind decisively and yes thoughtfully skipping the unnecessary explanation and details.

Years of childhood abuse and compounded lies offered by his adopted sick mother - Arthur's whole life is simply a sad tragedy. His journey and discovery to seek the real truth eventually created a new twin monster - Batman.

Warner Brothers did a right move frightfully by green-lighting this. Its gritty, grounded and simply a brilliant prologue for Nolan's handiwork.

Another brilliant record for Todd Philips where he directed The Hangover for only 35 million and collected 467 million bucks.
