25 Years

1994 - Marvel Comics, Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross published a 4 issue special that rejuvenated themselves and renewed my interest in them.

Marvels story took a different turn, rather than highlighting the heroes we knew, the narrative shifted on how we ( normal human being ) perceive, witness, treat and live with superheroes. Most of the time, we know that superheroes will come and save the day, battling villains - we forgot the damages, destructions incurred from it and how we need to deal and recover with the consequences.

Imagine answering all the damages done by Ultraman after fighting his silly monsters. Ultraman simply flew away and that's it.

Marvel addressed this consequences and partially few angles on the origin way before we got filmmakers decided to do reboots. Kurt Busiek orchestrated a brilliant re-introduction of the heroes we knew. And yes - finally we have a realistic looking Spidey courtesy of  Alex Ross. A believable looking superheroes.

1994 - where we still listen Nirvana and Alice and Chains and yes Disney havent purchased them yet. Being in school with no purchasing power made me stand in a comic book store for hours, flipping and consume the plot and visuals as much i could afford.

Then in the next 3 years, i finally grit my teeth to get the TPB ( trade paper back - all issues compiled at one go ).

Marvel and DC is intelligent as they figured out infinite ways on how to sell more of the best selling titles - reissuing them again and again. They will put in as much bonus features in their re-issues ( pages we havent seen, the process ) to entice people like me to buy it again.

( Its always the behind the scenes -extra stuffs elements that will determine if we need another justified extra copy ).

The best example is George Lucas, who milked his fans dry by re-releasing multiple version of Star Wars. With Star Wars now bought by Disney, The Mickey Mouse Club engineered ways to milk their fans from every age group.  Just like this nonsense.

and what makes it worst, they have 18 versions of this shit.
Anyway, lets go back to Marvels, i gritted my teeth, silence my conscience, put a stop at my mental justifications and proceeded to get the Platinum Edition of Marvels. Its heavy, weighs at least 2 kg, need a fucking table to flip the pages and mind you Marvel need to put as much extra materials they can get to justify the USD200 price tag.

Is it worth it?

for the ones who grew up reading his eldest brother comic collection, seeing Lou as the Hulk, shed tears seeing Captain America wielding The Mjolnir.......

Oh fucking yes.

comparing the size of a regular TPB and the Platinum Edition

its apt - by placing Giant Man for this edition.

So Disney, please by all means stop your Star Wars production just for awhile coz i need to see a solid justified remarkable Fantastic Four.....Silver Surfer, Galactus........and yes Jessica Alba.

p/s - Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross went to DC and gave us another gem - Kingdom Come.
