with the studio green-lighted another sequel in 2021 and a tv series focusing on The Continental -we witness John's wider skills by breaking a neck with a book, knife engagements, horses as his extended weapon,custom rigged an relic weapon, replied an answer in Indonesian with former Kanji Klub members and speed loading his shotgun.
am i entertained?
Yes - partly due to the brilliant choreographed stunts and have the ability to frame it nicely, no annoying shaky hand held cameras, multiple shots, close ups and shot in extremely dark location. With these thrown out from the window, the fight is focused, simplistic, visceral and edgy.
The knife fight alone is seriously amazingly fucked up!!!
devoid of any clumsy human drama shit, plot complications and twists and turns which will mess John's journey to hell and back, here John goes unto another level to seek The High Table for redemption.
Its interesting that i dont get any fatigue unlike where i have to focus and drag my attention watching Raid The Redemption till the credits. The creatives behind John knows that they can overkill it but with change of exotic locations and colors and more characters used made this film perceived shorter even though this film clocks in nearly 2 hours.
With his wife, dog, car and now his finger now gone, im looking forward on how the filmmakers going to end the next chapter. John Wick works as they didnt put any breaks in his narrative. That is the formula.
Mind you The Die Hard franchise starring Bruce Willis suffered entirely and everything in terms of quality and continuity as they cant extend Bruce anywhere anymore. If you put John in the past or in the future, the story will lose its momentum - therefore it structured in a linear timeline format.
Keyword here is minimalism and simplicity. Sure we are introduced to new characters and lots of assassins, but the film always steered us to root for John and his unpredictable journey of violence. I dont care about body counts or level of insanity presented here, but i cared about how Keanu successfully managed to sustain my suspension of disbelief here.
