Becoming an Elder
when you hit 40, you bound to look back at your surroundings, elements that form you today. I realized that Uchuk Raver is a disease.A disease that maybe this youngsters being fed too much with chemicals. The problem is you dont feel old. Age is simply numbers and fingers and i am so fortunate to be surrounded with alot of people who doesnt behave like their age.
We have no time for regrets or basking in past achievements. We keep on doing what we need to do. The clearest example is our new Prime Minister, The Tun, 93 year old who still read, write, drives and now managing and steering our country from nowhere to somewhere and to nowhere here and somewhere again. Rather than seeing the sunset with Siti Hasmah, he went straight in and showed what he made of. Proving himself and rest to the world again and again.
Becoming an elder is important too as all our actions, thoughts and yes importantly our ACT will somehow leave a mark to the younger ones. Here are the two teachers who basically gave me free license to do whatever i want and being an adult while i was in uni. Dr Najib and yes Dr Baha.
also no doubt the late Abang Bob, Abang Halimi from the Theater Department who acted as elder brothers whom i can joke, spend time discussing whatever, whenever. The most important thing they provide is space, trust and believe and work hand in hand when it comes to problem solving. I realized that these elements is missing in secondary schools, the over-protective parents making it harder for kids to turn to adult.
Accidentally joining the performing arts in USM is a blessing in disguise, coupled with excellent social media lectures, i somehow able to turn everything it to whatever im doing it now. Again, its all about environment and the support system governed by responsible elders. The ones who able to spar ideas and solution to you is priceless.
Elders who walks the walk and talks the talk will demand my respect, appreciation and gratitude and im completely serious with this fact. We need to know that there are elders pun langsung tak boleh pakai ( totally useless ) too.
Just take a look at Arsene Wenger, his grooming and supervision made anonymous youngsters to someone. That is one of the reason why i have soft spots for the Gunners. Also how Sir Alex steered Beckham, Scholesy and the rest.
One of my reason why audiences who attended in A Place Called Home will be greeted by El Capitan, Che Ali. Elders plays an absolute important role to shape, mold the young. I just hope you guys will get the right ones.
The right guru, elders will play a vital role to anyone consciously or subconsciously. They may appear in many forms and style but trust me, the right guru or elders will appear and whack you out. They have no time for cuddling or showering, giving out flowery compliments or facebook likes.
Just like Yoda talked to Luke before he enter the cave....only what you take with you.
To all my former teachers, guru's who contributed to what i am today, the universe shall reward you. May the force be with you.
