Masterclass : Spielberg
respect your audience. In Ready Player One, Spielberg showed a masterclass by giving us who watched Kubrick's The Shining - a freaking suspense ( again ) while at the same time showing not telling to audiences who DIDN'T watch the excellent film.
Dumb directors will tell/explain to audience to look for everything. If we tell, then no need to do films. Write a fucking letter, do a radio drama instead!
second - a solid 40 minutes of rampage, sand, bullets and blood and gore. There is no time for any introductory dialogues. We are thrust unto visceral experience in Saving Private Ryan. Just like in The Shining, we kept guessing who and what is happening to Jack. And the fucking photo in the hallway...........blew my mind and lingers in my mind.
third - terror by not showing in Jaws.
