In my Art History class/lecture - the kids are exposed from Cave Art to Modernism era....lessons highlighting how the society and culture are influenced by technology. Its a short concise lesson ( 12 weeks to be exact ) and lasts around 1 hour ( shorter ) to be precise. Most of the time, my classes is kinda huge, so you need to control the environment...so your delivery process is smooth.....
Why?
The kids ( gen Y and the Millennials ) now are visual based and need to be entertained - therefore i always highlight that "lectures" now need to brush up their communication skills, aware of what is happening now ( the current internet language ) and yes treating them as your nephews or nieces.....
in short - you guys need to learn the skills of a stand up comedian, ensure your jokes is filled with common sense....
Lecturing is not a One way communication process, its a Two Way process....
you --------------------> the students --------------------> you
again you are not doing a freaking monologue, place some sensible jokes in between your lectures...if the audience, dont laugh at your jokes, figure out WHY.....
( once there a batch of students love to test me as they love seeing me getting pissed off until to the extent i asked them if im their personal comedian.....assholes )
So, after 7 - 8 weeks exposing them to various works of art, i will bring them around to art galleries here in KL, most of the time is to National Art Gallery ( our national MOMA ), letting them experience how the works of art displayed and yes see if the works communicate with them or not....

Ok, after that - they are briefed to do their Re-Invention project, its basically a Remix - up, meaning they able to toy around paintings and stuffs they loved the most. They need to present couple of ideas for me to approved and yes to reject.....( love seeing their faces when their drawings are thrown to the dustbin ) - they need to learn the word REJECTION.....
|
here, people purchase stuffs that is rejected at a cheaper price |
The question here is, i want them to make the stuffs go alive, not to be oogled and displayed like a dead artefact....inject some fun and excitement in it, make it brand - new....make it ALIVE...anyway you can read more here.....
Most of the time, i will call the kids - Padawans....and mind you this padawans can surprise you during the assessment week, most of the time, they will blow you away, make you wander and disappoint you at times. Anyway, i will not show you guys the ones that disappoint me but the ones that make you feel good and awesome....
